Victims of whiplash injuries
An increasing number of accidents results in hyperextension-hyperflexion injury, more commonly referred to as whiplash injury. Whiplash injury occurs from a sudden thrusting forwards and snapping back of an unsupported head, usually in rear collision situations, which may lead to the compression of ligaments and fibres, and the neck vertebrae.
Some whiplash injury victims suffer chronic injuries the symptoms of which include permanent violent headache, pains in the neck and shoulders, dizzy spells and amnesia.
PTU grants support to research in this field and offers its active members suffering from whiplash injury free, independent social counselling and participation in self-help groups.
