A nationwide service Intensive therapy

Patients living outside the Greater Copenhagen area can avail of a three-week live-in period of intensive therapy and training at the PTU Clinic. An interdisciplinary approach, taking into consideration the special needs of the individual patient, is adopted. As a general rule, therapy involves medical consultation, treatment, social and psychological counselling, and guidelines on aids and appliances, and home furbishing.

PTU runs a clinic in Rødovre, with a department in Risskov, and admits patients from all over the country. In accordance with legislation on free choice of hospital, the PTU Clinic is recognised as a private, specialised hospital. Patients suffering polio-associated impairment and patients experiencing restricted mobility as a result of accidents can be referred to the PTU Clinic by a general practitioner, a consultant or a hospital department.

The PTU Clinic offers interdisciplinary therapy and training that includes medical examination, treatment and rehabilitation. Training can, for example, take the form of individual exercise therapy and pain relief sessions, assisted exercise therapy and heat therapy, along with training in a heated swimming pool and in a specially equipped gym.

PTU’s interdisciplinary services also include social and psychological counselling, and guidelines on aids and appliances, and on home and workplace design and furbishing.

The Patient’s Hotel

PTU runs its own Patient’s Hotel at the society’s headquarters in Rødovre. Patients undergoing intensive treatment and therapy can live here, free of charge, during the three-week prescribed period.

The hotel’s apartments are fully furnished and equipped with the needs of wheelchair users in mind. Although linen is provided, the patient is obliged to pay for meals.
