About PTU
Working actively for the disabled
PTU, the Danish Society of Polio and Accident Victims, is a consumer-driven association of and for people experiencing restricted mobility and whiplash injury. PTU’s headquarters are located in Rødovre Municipality, just outside Copenhagen. The society also has a department in Risskov, århus.
The society’s target groups are people suffering polio-associated impairment, injuries to the spinal cord, paraplegia and tetraplegia, spinabifida, injuries resulting from traffic and other accidents, and whiplash injury. Membership of PTU is open to everyone, either as an active or support member.
PTU acts as an interest group for members and involves itself politically in promoting integration and equal opportunities for its target groups. The disabled know their own needs best and, consequently, the contribution of members is essential if PTU’s work and services are to remain relevant and up-to-date. Accordingly, PTU places great emphasis on members playing an active role in the society’s efforts to improve the quality of life of the disabled.
PTU members can avail of a wide range of services that include telephone counselling, holiday chalet and autocamper hire, holidays abroad, courses, self-help groups, counselling for whiplash injury victims, plus a large variety of activities offered by our sixteen county associations.
Under law, PTU runs a private hospital and clinic. The clinic offers a range of interdisciplinary therapies and admits referred patients suffering from polio-associated impairment, and people experiencing restricted mobility as a result of traffic and other accidents.
